Game servers are moving to Dallas
Our game fleet is getting its own home on Ryzen 9 9950X in Dallas, separate from the VPS network, behind Cloudflare Magic Transit and CosmicGuard.
Until now, everything we run has shared one story: Ryzen 9 in New York and Ashburn, and whichever product you bought sat on that network. That worked while VPS was the whole business. It stopped being the right answer once game servers became their own product with their own demands.
Why a separate fleet
A VPS and a game server want different things from a machine.
A VPS is sized by what you install on it. You get root, you decide what runs, and the useful question is how much memory and how many cores you are renting. A game server is sized by what the game does to one core while thirty people load assets at the same time. Those two workloads want different hardware and different placement, and pretending otherwise means one of them is always compromised.
So the game fleet gets its own: Ryzen 9 9950X machines in Dallas, with DDR5 and enterprise NVMe.
Why Dallas
Roughly central to North America. A player in Los Angeles and a player in New York are not going to get identical latency to anywhere, but Dallas gets closer to even than either coast does, and for a game where the delay decides who won a fight, even matters more than lowest.
That is the whole argument. It is not the closest location to most players. It is the location where the spread between your players is smallest.
Filtering
The game fleet sits behind Cloudflare Magic Transit and CosmicGuard together. The first handles volume, the second handles the traffic that is shaped like players but is not. Attack protection is included on every plan, as it always has been, with no protection tier to buy later.
What is not changing
VPS stays where it is. New York runs Ryzen 9 5950X on DDR4, Ashburn runs 7950X on DDR5, and neither is moving to Dallas. If you are on a VPS today, nothing about this touches you.
When
Dallas is being built now. We are not putting a date on it, because the last thing we want is to promise a week and then explain a delay. If you want to hear first, the Discord is the place, and there is nothing to pay to join it.
